Insomnia & Sleep

What we know about sleep
Your body needs the rest time you get each night during sleep to rejuvenate and regenerate. If you find it hard to get to sleep or stay asleep, or find your mind is going round in circles worrying about things, such as your job, the children, the mortgage or just thinking…then hypnotherapy can help.
Sleep is essential for good health. It refreshes the mind and repairs the body. It is so important to get the sleep you need, so that your body can regenerate and heal, and be able to support you in the coming day ahead. Sleep isn’t a static state of consciousness, in fact the brain is active during sleep and moves through distinct stages of sleep, over and over, every night.
Adequate time spent in these sleep cycles is vital to restore the energy systems in the body, so that it can perform all the functions necessary for health and wellbeing.
Lack of sleep can cause fatigue, poor concentration and memory, mood disturbances, impaired judgment and reaction time, and poor physical coordination. A short-lived bout of insomnia is generally nothing to worry about, however chronic sleep loss is of concern, as it can contribute to health problems such as increased stress levels, high blood pressure, anxiety, pain, and a decrease in the immune system’s power to perform.
Hypnotherapy techniques to overcome those behaviours that prevent sleep from occurring can be utilised to help you to retrain your mind and body to rest, and allow sleep to occur naturally so that you can wake refreshed.

I suffered for over 20 years the merry-go-round of sleeplessness, insomnia, anxiety, relying on sleep medication; into learning and applying tools that work, studying hypnotherapy and sleep hygiene practices all which helped resolve the insomnia I experienced.
Hi, I’m Cara
I am not only a Clinical Hypnotherapist & Psychotherapist.
I am also a qualified sleep coach.
I have first-hand experience of insomnia.
Today I am able to get to sleep,
stay asleep and have restorative sleep

With over two decades of experience in health and wellbeing, and almost 10 years as a
Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist, I have developed a personalised
Rest Easy Hypnotherapy Sleep Program to support people experiencing insomnia, sleeplessness and other sleep difficulties.
Every treatment plan is tailored to your individual needs, combining
Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy with evidence-informed approaches including CBT, EMDR, EFT, mindfulness and practical between-session resources.
Together, we work to identify and address the underlying emotional, behavioural and nervous system patterns that may be contributing to poor sleep.
Rather than simply managing symptoms, treatment aims to reduce the stress, anxiety, hyperarousal and unhelpful sleep patterns that often keep people awake.
As your mind and body become calmer and more regulated, you can begin establishing healthy sleep habits and experience deeper, more natural and restorative sleep night after night.

Why do so many people struggle with sleep?
In simple terms, many sleep difficulties are maintained by two key factors:
1. Unhelpful behaviours and sleep habits
For example, irregular sleep routines, spending too much time awake in bed, excessive screen time, or relying on stimulants and other coping strategies that inadvertently disrupt healthy sleep.
2. An overactive mind and nervous system (hyperarousal)
Hyperarousal is a state where the brain and body remain on high alert. This can be triggered by stress, anxiety, worry, frustration, excitement, or simply becoming overly focused on not sleeping.
When the nervous system remains activated, the body produces stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol, making it difficult to relax and transition into restful sleep. As thoughts begin to race and concerns about not sleeping increase, this can create a cycle where poor sleep leads to more worry, and more worry leads to even poorer sleep.
This is where Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy can be so effective.
Rather than simply treating the symptoms of insomnia, treatment helps calm the nervous system, reduce hyperarousal, transform unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours, and address the underlying emotional factors that may be contributing to ongoing sleep difficulties.
As your mind and body begin to feel safer and more relaxed, healthy sleep can become a
natural process once again.
